PL11: from the ferry town out to the Whitsand coast
PL11 is the most stretched-out district we cover: two and a half miles at the Torpoint end and fourteen and a half by the time you reach Downderry. That distance, and the ferry, are the two facts that shape how we schedule everything here.
PL11 covers 16 places we work in, 2.4 to 14.5 miles from our base at 58 Reddington Road, Plymouth (Cornwall, Cornwall Council) - all inside our 20-mile radius of Plymouth.
The ferry decides the day, not the job
Crossing the Tamar with a loaded van costs time that has nothing to do with the cleaning. We work around it by batching PL11 properties into full days rather than crossing for a single call-out.
The practical effect for you is that we may offer a date a week or two out rather than tomorrow - and that the price does not carry a per-visit crossing surcharge.
Cliff-top exposure at the coastal end
Downderry, Seaton, Portwrinkle and Freathy sit on or above the Whitsand cliffs. Render there takes salt and constant wind; roofs lose moss but gather lichen; and glass films over within weeks of being cleaned.
It is worth being realistic about intervals here rather than being sold a clean that is supposed to last five years.
Inland villages are a different job
Hessenford, Sheviock, Deviock and Antony are sheltered, wooded and damp. Less salt, far more algae and lichen, and gutters that fill with leaves rather than with grit.
Reached via A374, Torpoint Ferry, A387, B3247. Recorded wall finishes: painted render, stone, granite. Roof coverings: slate, Cornish slate, concrete tile.
Questions we get asked in PL11
- Do you charge extra for the ferry?
- No. We batch work in PL11 into whole days so the crossing is not loaded onto a single job.
- How quickly can you get to Downderry?
- Usually when we have the next planned day in the district rather than immediately.
- Is cliff-top glass worth cleaning at all?
- Yes, but expect a shorter interval than inland. Salt film builds up quickly in that position.
