TQ7 is the biggest district on our list by a distance - the market town at Kingsbridge plus around thirty villages and hamlets spread across the South Hams. Cob, stone and painted render, slate and in places thatch, and lanes that make a five-mile hop take twenty minutes.

Working next to thatch

Thatch appears in this district in a way it does not elsewhere on our patch. We do not clean thatch and nobody should, but we do work on neighbouring elevations and extensions, and that means controlling overspray and drift carefully.

If a thatched roof is within range of the work we will say so and adjust the method rather than pretending it is not there.

Cob and the lanes it stands on

Many South Hams cottages are cob on a stone plinth, sitting right on the lane with no pavement. Splash from passing traffic keeps the base of the wall wet, which is why the bottom metre is always the worst part.

Cleaning helps the look of it, but if the plinth is being soaked daily the pattern will return. We will tell you that instead of selling you the same job twice a year.
