Look at the gutters before anything else
Wind loads roof debris straight into the gutter run. A gutter that coped fine in October can be fully blocked after one bad night, and the first sign is often a wet band down the wall rather than anything visible from the ground.
What displaced moss tells you
Clumps on the ground mean the roof was carrying a lot of growth and that the rest has moved rather than gone. It is worth looking at the slope after a storm, because the exposed area often shows how much is left.
Staining after the event
Overflow during a storm leaves a stain that stays long after the weather clears. Cleaning the wall without clearing the cause simply resets the clock until the next downpour.
