Sealing is oversold and under-explained. It does real things, but they are narrower than most sales pitches suggest, and on the wrong driveway it is money thrown at a surface that needs relaying.
What sealing does
It reduces absorption so oil and organic staining sit on top, stabilises jointing sand, and makes the next clean quicker. On block paving it also deepens the colour, which some people like and some do not.

What it does not do
It does not stop growth entirely, does not fix a sunken or rutted driveway, and does not last forever. It is maintenance, not a permanent solution.
When to skip it
On a failing, rutted or badly laid surface, seal money is better saved towards relaying. We will tell you when that is the case.
