What affects the cost of gutter cleaning

Length of the run

The main factor is simply how many metres of gutter there are. A mid-terrace with a front and back run is a small job; a detached house with gutters on every side, a garage and a porch has several times as much. Bay windows, dormers and extensions each add short runs with their own outlets.

Height

Gutters are cleared from the ground with a vacuum on a carbon pole that reaches up to four storeys, so height does not mean scaffolding. It does still matter, because higher runs are slower to work accurately and to check with the camera. A bungalow is quicker than a town house with gutters three floors up.

Access around the house

The vacuum and pole need a clear path along each side of the building. Open driveways and gardens are straightforward. Narrow side passages, steep banks, conservatories, glass roofs and greenhouses underneath the gutter, or runs only reachable from a neighbour's garden, all take more planning and time. Telling us about these at quote stage avoids surprises.

How blocked they are

Gutters cleared every year mainly hold leaves and a little silt. Gutters left for years fill with compacted silt, moss from the roof, and sometimes plants growing in them, which takes longer to remove. Heavy tree cover means more debris, which is why we suggest twice a year under trees and once a year for most homes.

Extras: conservatories and downpipes

High-level conservatory gutters are exactly what the high-reach system is designed for, and they can be included. We clear visible downpipe inlets as standard; blocked vertical runs can be flushed for an extra fee. If you already know a downpipe backs up, mention it, because it changes what is quoted.

What is included

The clear itself, a camera check of every run to confirm flow, bagging and removing the waste, and before and after photos of each section. Any fascia issues we spot are flagged. You do not need to be in, and most jobs take under an hour.

When cleaning will not fix it

If a clean gutter still overflows in heavy rain, the cause is usually fall, capacity or a joint rather than debris. We tell you that honestly rather than selling repeat clears, so you can get the right repair.

Why regular clears cost less over time

A gutter cleared every year holds light debris that comes out quickly. One left for several years fills with compacted silt and moss, can pull away from its brackets under the weight of standing water, and may already have stained the wall or rotted the fascia behind it. Those repairs cost far more than the clears would have. Keeping to a regular schedule, especially before autumn leaf fall, is the simplest way to keep each visit short and the price predictable. Gutters that overflow onto render or brick also undo wall cleaning, so a clear protects that work as well.

Getting a fixed price

Photos of each side of the house showing the whole gutter line are the easiest start. Add a note of the number of storeys, any conservatory or flat roof below, and any spot where you have seen water pouring over. We price from that, or from a quick walk-round, and the price is fixed before work begins.
