Exterior checklist when you are moving out

Handover conditions usually concentrate on the inside, but the outside is what the new owner sees on the first morning. A short list handles most of it.

  • Clear anything the survey specifically named
  • Glass, drive and front path in the final week
  • Pass on what you know about the property's weak spots

Deal with anything the survey raised

If the buyer's survey mentioned gutters, moss or organic growth, dealing with it before completion removes a point of negotiation. It is generally cheaper to clear a gutter than to discount for it.

Glass, drive and frontage

Those three do the most for a first impression at handover, and none of them require access to an emptied house. They can be done in the last week without disrupting the move.

Leave the information behind

Telling the new owner which elevation greens first, or which gutter run collects most, is genuinely useful and costs nothing. Photographs from the clean serve the same purpose.

Common questions

Can you work on an empty property?
Yes, exterior work needs no internal access.
How late can it be booked before completion?
Short jobs slot in easily. Wall and roof work needs more notice because of weather.
Is it worth it if the buyer is renovating?
For gutters and anything the survey named, yes. For cosmetic cleaning, less so.

Similar situations

Send the survey wording and your completion date and we will price only what actually needs doing.
